SMS and voice authentication is being retired February 1, 2027

  • Users currently relying on SMS or voice authentication methods must transition to an approved authentication method to maintain access to Microsoft 365 and related services such as D2L and Workday and any application that uses your M365 account for access.

Register An Approved Authentication Method

  • Register an approved authentication method, such as Microsoft Authenticator or a FIDO2 security key.
  • Once logged into M365 use the following

  • Add a Method: Click Add method or Add sign-in method on the Security Info page as seen above.
  • Choose Verification Type: Select your preferred option from the list: Microsoft Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator App: Select Authenticator app, download the free app on iOS or Android, scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen, and approve the test notification.
  • Select Number matching from within the Authenticator application:
  • Set Default Method: Go back to Security Info, select Change next to the default sign-in method, pick your preferred primary method from the dropdown, and click Confirm.

Please update your authentication methods as soon as possible to avoid disruptions to your access to Microsoft 365 services.
