Always Check Your Work

Panorama will not catch or fix every issue. It's just one tool to use in your toolbox. Each accessibility checker tool is different and may provide varying results. Content creators are still responsible for manually checking their content and meeting all required standards.

PDFs and Website Content: Panorama cannot accurately check PDFs to meet the ADA Title II WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. Even if a PDF “passes” Panorama's checks, it may not be fully accessible. If you're designing content for the college website, check with Marketing staff for guidance and requirements.

What is YuJa Panorama Doc Hub?

Creating accessible digital materials doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Panorama is a standalone tool that analyzes documents - such as PDFs, Word files, and PowerPoint presentations - for accessibility.

YuJa’s DocHub tool offers a clear, actionable scoring system to improve the accessibility of digital content. It generates a score based on how well the content aligns with accessibility standards and identifies areas for improvement.

Not all issues can be resolved in Panorama. Reference YuJa Panorama's accessibility checklist website for a list of accessibility issues that can be resolved with Panorama.

Understanding the Accessibility Report

Each document receives a score from 0 to 100, based on factors such as:

  • Use of headings

  • Alt text for images

  • Table structure

  • Color contrast

Meaning Behind Issue Levels

YuJa Panorama categorizes issues by severity:

  • Severe Issues: The document is not accessible (e.g., pdf is untagged).

  • Major Issues: These significantly affect accessibility (e.g., missing alt text, improper heading structure).

  • Minor Issues: These are less critical but still worth addressing (e.g., decorative images without alt text).

Note: Fix severe and major issues first. This will improve your score quick and make your content more usable for all learners.

Make Changes to Files

Go to the Accessibility Report to see all accessibility issues and make revisions.

  • In the Accessibility Report, you will see the score, issue description, and the level of severity,

  • Click View Issue/Instance link to view issues under each level of severity.

  • If an item can be fixed in D2L, it will say Fix Issue. For example, if the issue is an image missing alternative text, you will be prompted to either enter in alt text, have alternative text generated for you, or select the image as decorative. Once done, click Select Fix.

  • After applying the fix, you can review and then Apply # Fix to Document. Your Accessibility Score will score higher.

  • The Fix This Document button offers two options for the file - Guided Remediation with Assistance or Upload New Version.

Note:

  • You may need to edit the original file source (i.e., Adobe Acrobat or PowerPoint) and re-upload to DocHub to check your progress.
  • After updating your document in the DocHub, download the edited version and save/use/share elsewhere.

Strategies for Success

Many fixes are simple and improve usability for everyone.  Choose progress over perfection.  Expectations:

  • Create new course material with accessibility in mind. Use DocHub as a proactive accessibility tool.

  • Use built-in accessibility checkers in tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Address severe and major issues first. Build toward fully accessible materials.

  • Begin with one document. Consistent progress creates lasting results.
