Question: What’s the difference between an academic advisor and a counselor?

Answer:

Academic Advisors help you understand your degree requirements and develop an academic plan to stay focused on meeting your educational goals. Advisors meet with students to help ensure they are taking appropriate coursework for their planned major and transfer institution.

Counselors provide both career counseling and personal counseling. Career counseling helps students discover what careers might be the best fit for them, explore career options and develop a career plan. Personal counseling helps students experiencing a personal issue that makes concentrating on coursework difficult, life/work balance, and those who have depression, anxiety or mental health issues.
