Question: If I am speaking Spanish in my Mediaspace video recording, can I order captions in Spanish?

  • Can I still have my video captioned if the language spoken in the video isn't English?

Answer: Yes.  MediaSpace has the ability to caption several languages.

  • Once your recording is saved and uploaded to your Mediaspace account, the video is automatically machine captioned in English by default.
  • Your video can also be captioned in Arabic, Cantonese, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Turkish.
  • Mediaspace does not translate but expects the source language in the video to be the language of the captions you are ordering.  For example, if you are speaking Spanish in your video and you order Spanish captions, Mediaspace uses its service to automatically detect the words.
  1. Log in to Mediaspace.  Click on your video.
  2. Click the Actions menu.
  3. Click Caption & Enrich.
  1. Click the +Order button.
  2. Source Media Language:  Select the language you want.
  3. Click the Submit button.

  1. You will see your requests listed.  The English entry is the default that is automatically created for every video.  The most recent caption request appears at the top.  The caption request will have a status of Pending.  Once your video is done processing, the status will say Completed.  You will receive an email when your caption request is complete.

  1. It is always good practice to review your captions.  Click the pencil icon.  Play/pause your video and correct any misspelled captions.  Click Save when done.

  • If you keep all captions, students will need to click on the CC button in the bottom right corner of the video player and choose the correct captions.

  • If your video is in Spanish and you do not intend for your students to use the English captions, you can choose to have a particular language captions not show on the player or delete them.  Either way will make it easier for your students to view the correct captions when they watch your video.
  1. In Mediaspace, click on your video.
  2. Click the Actions menu.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Click the Captions tab underneath the video.
  5. Click the Don’t Show on Player icon.  A diagonal line will appear over the icon.

  1. You can also click the X / Delete button.  This will remove the captions for the specific language.
