What is a
1098
-T Tax Form and where do I get it?
What is my
1098
-T Tax Form?
The
1098
-T Tax Form is a document showing the eligible tuition and fees you paid along with grants and scholarships received between January 1 and December 31 for a particular year.
It is generated by Minnesota State Colleges, so if you are attending multiple schools that are a part of Minnesota State Colleges, all schools with qualifying payments and grants will be listed on one form. MinnState's Federal Employer Identification Number/Federal Tax Identification Number is 41-1687554.
Please refer to IRS Publication 970 Tax Benefits for Education, for how to report items on your
1098
-T.
When is the
1098
-T Tax Form available?
It will be mailed by January 31 the following year. For instance, the
1098
-T form for 2020 will be mailed by January 31, 2021.
The
1098
-T can be viewed online through student
eServices
accounts by January 31, but it is sometimes available a week or two earlier.
If a student confirms to view the form online, physical copies will no longer be created by Minnesota State Colleges.
Reprints can be requested at the Business Office of any Minnesota State Colleges school after January 31.
Where can I find the
1098
-T Tax Form online?
Students can find current and past tax documents in
eServices
by going to:
Bills and Payment

-T Tax Form
Consent to view online
What is covered on the
1098
-T Document?
The
1098
-T Tax form covers payments made by the student for eligible tuition and fees and shows grants and scholarships received by the student during the year.
Fees included may vary by location, but can include:
Technology Fee
MN State Colleges Student Association Fee (MSCSA)
The
1098
-T Details page will show a breakdown of all the information used to generate the
1098
-T.
What if I don’t see one available?
The
1098
-T tracks eligible payments made using the date of the payment, not when the semester takes place. This can cause some confusion regarding Spring semester payments.
Spring tuition deadlines are usually in December even though courses don’t begin until the following January. If tuition is paid in December, it will be on that year's
1098
-T.
If a student has not yet taken any courses at Anoka Technical College and Spring semester is the student's first scheduled semester, then a
1098
-T will not be generated if the student pays before the first day of the term. Note that a
1098
-T is not printed since the student has not yet attended courses when the payment was made.
What can I do if I don’t have a
1098
-T?
The
1098
-T is a statement that combines payment and financial aid information between January 1 – December 31.
Log into
eServices
and click “View Account Detail” under "Bills and Payments" to see each semester’s invoice. This will show each semester's charges and payments by date
