Kaltura MediaSpace: Transferring Video Ownership

Article Type: How-To

Question: Can I transfer ownership of my MediaSpace video to someone else?

Answer: Yes. You can transfer ownership of your video to another user’s MediaSpace account.

  • Once the transfer is complete, you will not be able to edit the video.
  • The video will no longer appear in your MediaSpace account.
  • Transferring ownership will not impact the shared links of the video.  Example: If the video link is used in D2L courses, transferring ownership will not affect those links.

Copyright

  • Changing the video owner does not necessarily make them the copyright owner.

  • If you are the video author/creator and you transfer ownership, let the new owner know of any copyright restrictions.  For example, can your video be copied, modified, published, distributed, displayed, etc.

Contacting the New Owner

  • Always make sure the person you are transferring the video to knows that you will be moving the video to their account.
  • If the new person is not aware of this transfer and sees new videos in their account, they may delete the videos because they do not know where they came from.
  • This will permanently delete the video and cause any links pointing to this video to break.

  1. Log in to your MediaSpace account at https://mediaspace.minnstate.edu/.
  2. To the far right of the video you want to transfer ownership, click the pencil icon.
  3. Click the Collaboration tab.
  4. Click the Change Media Owner button.

  5. Type and select the user’s name.  Click Save.
